Learning Objectives

Hospital for Special Surgery Continuing Education activities are intended to improve the quality of patient care and safety. At the conclusion of this course, the participant will be able to:
  • Identify the musculoskeletal structures in the upper and lower extremities that can be visualized and effectively assessed under ultrasound.
  • Explain basic concepts of diagnostic musculoskeletal sonography, such as appearance of bone, muscle, tendon, ligament, and nerves.
  • Describe and assess pathology on sonographic images pertaining to musculoskeletal structures.
  • Understand the array of musculoskeletal procedures and interventions that can be performed under ultrasound guidance for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes in the upper and lower extremities.
